Cats for adoption

Adoption Procedures

We want to find a perfect match for all our cats and prospective adopters. Many of our cats and kittens have already been through a lot in their short lives. We may refuse an adoption if we believe it to be in the best interest of the cat or prospective family.

The application process consists of:

  • Home-check and interview, please complete our adoption questionnaire.
  • Introduction to the cat, this is usually done at the foster family.
  • The adoptive family will be required to sign our adoption terms and conditions.

We are always here to support and help with your new family members, especially during the initial period while your cat is getting used to new circumstances.

Here are the basics you will need to get prior to adopting a cat or kitten

A secure cat carrier for safe transport
Please make sure it’s secure and sturdy, you do not want your frightened cat to escape for example at a vet visit. Top openings can make it easier to put a cat inside the carrier.
Please note that we will refuse the adoption of a cat if you don’t have a secure carrier for transport with you.
Litter tray and litter
It’s advisable to check what the cat or kitten is used to from their foster home (open tray, covered, flap or no flap, clumping or non-clumping litter…). Covered trays are the cleaner option and you can always remove the cover and/or flap in the beginning.
Food and treats
Again, please check what the foster home is using. A cat’s tummy can be very sensitive to change, it’s better to change them onto a different diet gradually. Also, go easy on treats in the beginning. Of course, you want to spoil your new family member, but you don’t want their tummy upset with too many new things.
A comfy bed
There’re so many fancy beds out there, but the rumours are true…Your cat will most likely choose a cardboard box over any expensive bed and end up sleeping on the sofa, a chair or any other place, except for the bed you bought. A soft blanket in a box is absolutely fine for the beginning. But don’t worry, we all gave in to the temptation of buying a cute bed, even if it’s just to decorate the room 🙂
Toys
Most cats love to play and chase after toys. Dangling toys on a stick are a great way for children to interact with a cat or kitten without getting too close to excited, sharp claws.
A scratcher
Again, the options are endless. Some cats love their cat tree and sleep, play and scratch on it. Others think it’s just another one of your strange decorations and don’t even look at it. Your cat’s foster home can tell you more about their preferences. In general, we do advise to offer some sort of scratching option to keep them from scratching your furniture.
