Our Mission

Supporting cats and Communities

Community cats are stray and feral cats who live in our neighbourhoods.  In back gardens, lane ways, derelict houses, farms, car parks, industrial estates, shopping centres etc, anywhere you care to mention.   Most of these cats will have been abandoned by their owners or strayed from home and got lost, feral cats are born in these environments and do not know how to interact with humans.  All of these animals are hungry and homeless through no fault of their own and struggle to survive as best they can. The issue of overpopulation and suffering in Ireland is huge, it is impossible to find homes for all these cats. It is estimated that there are about 730,000 homeless cats in Ireland. With the best will in the world organisations and rescues cannot take all of these animal into shelters and centres.

Cats Trust Adoption and Protection, Registered Charity Number 20206641 (formerly known as Aughrim Cat rescue) is making a difference for the cats in Ireland both through hands on help by caring for community cats, TNR, but also through education, raising awareness and lobbying for better animal protection rights.

Over 14 years of Helping feral and community cats.

In 2010 Catriona Leahy set up Aughrim Cat Rescue with concern for the serious overpopulation of feral cats in County Wicklow, to specialise in TNR (the Trap-Neuter-Return of feral cats).

Aughrim Cat Rescue – now Cats Trust and Protection, has grown into a large group of dedicated volunteers who share the same goal: To improve the quality of life of cats in Ireland.

We foster, socialise and rehome cats and kittens and we do TNR mainly in Co. Wicklow, Co. Wexford and Co. Carlow but also in surrounding areas like South Dublin, Kilkenny and Kildare.
